Softball Sweeps Road Doubleheader at Delaware State, Rush Breaks HR Mark

DOVER, Del. – The Drexel University softball team (27-15-1) swept the Delaware State Hornets (6-26) on Tuesday afternoon in a midweek road doubleheader. The Dragons won the first game 11-1 in five innings before completing the sweep with a 9-3 victory in game two.
In game two, Linda Rush hit a solo home run, her 17th of the season, to break Drexel's single season record set a year ago by teammate Kristi DiMeo (16 in 2018). Rush and DiMeo both came into Tuesday's doubleheader with 16 homers on the campaign.
GAME ONE – W, 11-1 (5)
The Dragons roared past the Hornets in game one, 11-1, behind 13 hits with a sixth-run second inning and a five-run fourth inning. Freshman Meghan Conroy picked up the win, allowing just three hits and one earned run.
Hannah Walker and Jenelle Ladrido both notched RBI singles to start the scoring in the game. Linda Rush and Kristi DiMeo finished up the six-run inning with a pair of two-run doubles.
In the five-run fourth, DiMeo recorded her second extra-base hit with an RBI triple. Walker scored two Dragons with a two-run double before Ladrido brought home another with her second RBI single.
Conroy surrendered just three hits to Delaware State in the win. The Hornets recorded one in the first and two in the third.

GAME TWO – W, 9-3
A balanced offense with 17 hits from nine different Dragons led Drexel to a 9-3 win in game two. Reilly Jo Swanson, Megan Trivelpiece and Hannah Walker each had three-hit games in the victory. Freshman Marisa Browne tossed a complete game effort as she picked up her first collegiate win, allowing five hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts.
Trivelpiece singled up in the middle in the first to score the first run. In the second, Rush singled to left to make it 3-0 in favor of the Dragons.
With two on in the third, Jenelle Ladrido tripled to right to score Swanson and Walker. Mari Gardner then scored Ladrido on a base hit to center.
With the bases loaded in the fourth, Emma Dryden worked a walk as Drexel now led 7-0.
A double in the sixth scored two for the Hornets while a triple in the sixth cut Drexel's lead to 7-3.
Rush hit her Drexel single-season record 17th home run of the season in the top of the 7th before Swanson notched an RBI double to score Trivelpiece as the Dragons won 9-3.
