Offense Bombards Coppin State as Softball Sweeps Tuesday Doubleheader

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Drexel University softball team (19-11-1) swept the Coppin State Eagles in a nonconference, road doubleheader on Tuesday, April 2 in Baltimore, Md. from the CSU Softball Complex. The Dragons run-ruled the Eagles, 17-2, in the five-inning, game one matchup behind a six-RBI performance from Kristin DiMeo before downing CSU in game two by a final of 7-1 with a complete game effort by Meghan Conroy and four more RBI from DiMeo.
GAME ONE – W, 17-2 (5 innings)
Drexel poured on 17 runs behind 15 hits in the game one win on Tuesday. The Dragons jumped out to an early 10-1 lead after two innings.
Linda Rush notched a two-run homer down the left field line after Sarah Clinton led off the game with a walk. Kristi DiMeo then singled to right before Haley Hulitt doubled her in to make it 3-0. Another single by Taylor Lee brought Hulitt around to score after a field error allowed the sophomore to advance home.
In the second inning with no outs and the bases loaded, DiMeo recorded a two-run single down the line to score Clinton and Reilley Jo Swanson, 6-1. Hulitt then brought home Rush to make it 7-1. Lee would go on to hit a three-run homer to expand it to 10-1.
Six more runs in the fourth inning brought the score to 16-1. A sac fly by Emma Dryden brought home one run before Clinton singled in another to make it 12-1. DiMeo capped the inning with a grand slam, 16-1.
In the circle, Brooklyn Daly (W, 11-2) captured her 11th win of the year behind 3.0 innings of work with a strikeout, one hit and one earned run. Marisa Browne made her second appearance of the year, throwing 2.0 innings with two strikeouts, one hit and one earned run.

GAME TWO – W, 7-1
Conroy tossed a compete game with just six hits and one earned run against her in the game two win for Drexel.
DiMeo notched four RBI for a total of 10 on the day as she went 5-for-7 at the plate between the two games.
The scoring started for the Dragons in the third inning. A double from Jenelle Ladrido followed by a walk to Julia Roman and a single from Taylor Kent loaded the bases for Rush. Rush converted, bringing home a run via a single through the left side. DiMeo scored another with her sac fly while Hullitt's fielder's choice scored the third run of the inning.
Drexel stretched its lead from 3-1 to 7-1 with four runs in the top of the sixth. Reilly Jo Swanson scored Ladrido with a two-out single to make it 4-1. With the bases juiced, DiMeo cleared the bases with a three-run double to push the edge to 7-1.
