Softball Travels to Coppin State, Hosts Fairleigh Dickinson in Midweek Matchups

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team (17-11-1) will travel to Baltimore, Md. for a doubleheader against Coppin State on Tuesday, April 4 before returning to the friendly confines of the Drexel Softball Field in Philadelphia to host Fairleigh Dickinson for a pair of games on Thursday, April 4. Both doubleheaders start at 2 p.m.
RECAPPING LAST WEEK
The Dragons went 5-1-1 last week with two midweek doubleheaders before a weekend conference series. Drexel won the first but tied the second against Lafayette on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Dragons outscored Saint Peter's 28-3 for a nonconference sweep. Drexel hosted the College of Charleston for the squad's second CAA series over the weekend. DU split the Saturday doubleheader before getting the 8-5 win on Sunday to take the series.
AT THE TOP
Drexel and James Madison share the top spot in the league with a 5-1 conference mark. Overall, Drexel is 17-11-1 on the year while JMU is 23-6. Elon, UNCW and Hofstra are all 3-3 in CAA games.
WEEKLY AWARDS
Junior shortstop Linda Rush was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Player of the Week on Monday. It came as the second-straight CAA Player of the Week honor for Rush after she earned the award last Monday. In the seven games last week, Rush went 13-for-21 with two home runs, two doubles, 13 RBI and five runs scored. She is now hitting .451 with 11 home runs and a team-best 44 RBI on the year.
Kristi DiMeo was named the Drexel School of Education Athlete of the Week on Monday as she went 10-of-21 at the plate with two home runs, three doubles, 12 RBI and five runs scored.
NEXT UP
Following the four midweek games, Drexel travels to UNCW in Wilmington, D.C. for the team's third CAA opponent and first conference road series. The Dragons and Seahawks will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 and a single game on Sunday, April 7.
