WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Drexel University softball team (23-12-1, 7-2 CAA) dropped a narrow 1-0 contest to close out its three-game conference series against the UNCW Seahawks (22-18, 4-5 CAA) on Sunday afternoon from Boseman Field in Wilmington, N.C. With two wins on Saturday, the Dragons still managed to win their third-straight CAA series to begin league play.
Starting pitcher Devon Grippe and the Dragons held UNCW to just one hit but Drexel was unable to muster a run as the team lost only its second league game.
The only run of the game was scored in the bottom of the second inning for the Seahawks. A hit by pitch started the inning before a fielder's choice made it one on with one out. UNCW's Hannah Adamczyk doubled to right center to put runners on the corners while Casey Jones hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home the lone Seahawk run, 1-0.
Drexel was held to just three hits in the game, marking just the third time the Dragons had three hits or less this season. Taylor Lee singled in the second inning while Linda Rush singled in the fourth and sixth innings.
Quick Hits
Devon Grippe / L (8-6), 6.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 2 BB
Linda Rush / 2-3, 2 1B
Taylor Lee / 1-1, 2 BB
