Softball Splits Midweek Doubleheader at La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University softball team (24-13-1) split a midweek road doubleheader with the La Salle Explorers (8-23) on Wednesday afternoon from West Campus Field on La Salle's campus. The Dragons won the first game in extra innings, 6-5, before falling to the Explorers in game two, 13-8.
Drexel's 24 wins are the most for the program since 2009.
GAME ONE – W, 6-5 (9)
Drexel jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. With one out, Linda Rush doubled to center to get things started. Kristi DiMeo and Megan Trivelpiece both walked to eventually bring up Taylor Lee with two outs and the bases loaded. Lee then hit a grand slam to right field to put the Dragons on top, 4-0. It came as her sixth home run of the season.
La Salle then went on to score five unanswered runs over the next five innings to go up 5-4. The Explorers notched an RBI single in the first, a three-run homer in the third and a solo shot in the fifth.
In the top of the seventh, the Dragons were able to even the score when Hannah Walker hit a solo shot, her second of the season.
Drexel broke the 5-5 tie in the top of the ninth when Kristi DiMeo grounded out to score Megan Tannenbaum from third.
Drexel used four pitchers in the win. Brooklyn Daly pitched the first 4.0 innings. Haley Hulitt then tossed a scoreless frame. Meghan Conroy pitched 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit and one run. Devon Grippe closed out the game to earn her first save of the year.

GAME TWO – L, 13-8
Drexel notched 13 hits in a game two loss, 13-8. Six Dragons had multi-hit games with Kristi DiMeo and Sarah Clinton providing the power.
DiMeo had a multi-home run game, a solo shot in the first inning followed by a three-run bomb in the fourth inning. She finished with four RBI on the day and scored three times. Clinton hit a solo homer in the third.
Following DiMeo's homer in the first, La Salle scored five runs in the second behind an RBI single and grand slam.
Clinton's home run made the score 5-2 in favor of the Explorers before Woulfe recorded a two-run single in the same inning to pull the Dragons within one, 5-4. La Salle was then able to stretch its edge back to three in the bottom half of the inning.
DiMeo's three-run blast tied the game in the fourth. La Salle then scored six unanswered runs. Hulitt doubled in the sixth to bring in another run for Drexel as they game went final at 13-8.
Drexel used four pitchers in the loss. Devon Grippe (2.1 innings), Meghan Conroy (1.0 innings), Marissa Browne (1.1 innings) and Haley Hulitt (1.2 innings) all pitched in the effort.
