Men's Soccer Topped in Overtime in Opener at Binghamton, 2-1
8/30/2019 9:36:00 PM | Men's Soccer
VESTAL, N.Y. – After taking a lead early in the second half of their season opener at Binghamton on Friday evening, the Drexel men's soccer team could not hang on as the Dragons fell to the host Bearcats in overtime, 2-1.
Chris Donovan scored just 28 seconds into the second half to give Drexel (0-1-0) a temporary 1-0 lead, but a pair of Noah Luescher goals in the 79th and 94th minutes put Binghamton (1-0-0) over the top. Donovan and Kwesi Allen put up four shots each. Patrick Murphy and Kyle Tucker had a pair of shots each. Stephen Kopsachilis, meanwhile, made eight saves in goal.
Both teams had seven shots in a scoreless first half, though the Bearcats tested Kopsachilis five times with shots on goal and the sophomore stopped all five. All three of the game's goals came on set pieces, with Donovan scoring the Dragons' goal on a corner kick and Luescher depositing a pair of free kicks.
The Dragons will return to action on Monday evening in their home opener when they host Rutgers at Vidas Field at 6 p.m. Drexel will play four home games in September overall.
