FINAL RESULTS
Hanover, N.H. - The Drexel golf team rallied from two shots down to win the Dartmouth Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Hanover Country Club. The Dragons had four of their five players shoot par or better on their way to a five-stroke victory. Drexel finished the 36-hole tournament at 557, 11 shots under par.
The Dragons, playing in their second tournament of the season, entered Sunday's final round two shots behind Rhode Island. Sunday's performance really was a true team effort. Senior Connor Schmidt, who had an uncharacteristic day on Saturday, bounced back in a big way in the final round. Schmidt shot a five-under 66, which was his second round in the 60s in his last three outings. He wasn't the only going under par. Stephen Cerbara fired a 69, while Angelo Giantsopoulos had a one-under par 70. Alex Butler, Saturday's best Drexel performer, had a 71.
Butler's two-day total score of 135, which was seven-under par, placed him in second place overall. Schmidt, Cerbara and Giantsopoulos each tied for 12th overall at one-under par. Freshman David Colleran finished Sunday with a 72, and finished the tournament at 146 (+4).
The Dragons ended up winning the tournament by five strokes over both Bucknell and URI. Dartmouth placed fourth overall, eight strokes better than Siena. With the win, the Dragons have now won at least one event in five straight seasons.
