Women's Tennis Extends Win Streak to Seven With Shutout over Delaware

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel Women's Tennis defeated Colonial Athletic Association member Delaware by a score of 7-0 and extended its winning streak to seven straight on Wednesday morning. The Dragons improved to 7-1. The Blue Hens fell for the first time this season and dropped to 4-1.
The Dragons' seven-match win streak is tied for the second-longest streak in 10 years. Drexel won eight in a row during the 2014-15 season.
The Dragons started the morning by sweeping the doubles point. In the top flight, Salma Ziouti, this week's CAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week, and Šárka Richterová won their match 6-1. Ghita Benhadi and Cristina Corte González were victororious by a score of 6-3 in the No. 2 match. With that win, Benhadi recorded the 100th overall win of her career to join seven other Dragons with 100-plus total victories. Mya Fuentes and Tara Veluvolu won the No. 3 doubles match by default.
In singles play, Marta Martinez won her sixth seeded match by default. Fuentes defeated her opponent in the fourth-seeded match with a score of 6-2, 6-1. The No. 3 flight featuring Richterová ended in a two-set victory, 6-2, 6-2, clinching the match for Drexel.
In the top-seeded match, Ziouti defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2. Benhadi won, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 2 flight. Lastly, Veluvolu won her fifth-seeded bout, 6-0, 7-5.
Drexel will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for a neutral-court match with Duquesne on Sunday at 10 a.m.
