Dragons get goals from 13 different players

PHILADELPHIA -Drexel scored the first five goals of the game and went on to a 24-12 win against Robert Morris in the Dragons' home opener at Vidas Field. The 24 goals set a Colonial Athletic Association record for most goals in a game. It was also the most a Drexel team has scored in one game since the 1975 season. Drexel (1-2) picked up its first win of the year, while Robert Morris dropped to 1-2.

The Dragons had goals from 13 different players. Reid Bowering led the way with five goals, all of them coming in the first half. Collin Mailman, Ryan Genord and Aidan Coll each had three goals on the afternoon. Matthew Varian handed out six assists and finished with seven points.

Mailman gave the Dragons a lead just 2:33 into the game, and Varian set up Coll for the next two goals. Bowering and Chris McLallen gave the Dragons an early 5-0 lead before the Colonials got the final two goals of the first quarter. The Dragons put the game away with nine goals in the second quarter to extend their lead to 14-5 at intermission. The Dragons closed the half with four straight goals, including three in the final 44 seconds. Bowering had two of his four second-quarter goals in the final minute, sandwiched around a Jack Mulcahy goal.

The teams each scored four times in the third quarter. Genord, who now has eight goals in his last two games, scored twice. Mailman and Luke Hurley had the other Drexel scores.

In the fourth quarter, Drexel had three man-up goals, two of them coming from reserves as the Dragons emptied their bench early in the fourth quarter. Anthony Rosato scored his first career goal after coming in to replace Jimmeh Koita. Charles Dumas, Max Spaan and Sean Valentino finished out the scoring for Drexel.

Koita had his best game of the season for the Dragons. The senior won 24 of his 33 face-off attempts and had 15 ground balls. The 24 wins were one shy of his career-high. Varian's six assists were the most in his career, and the senior now has 76 in his career. He moved into seventh on Drexel's career list, passing Ron Forster and Robert Church. Bowering's five goals now give him 111 in his career as he picked up his 23^rd career hat trick.

Brandon Sulhoff led the Colonials with three goals. Ryan Smith had three assists and four points, while Elliott Holden and Jake Boudreau each scored twice.

Drexel will be back in action on Saturday when Marquette makes its first appearance at Vidas Field.
