Softball Travels to Virginia for Pirate Invitational

LAST TIME OUT
The Dragons played at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla. on Feb. 28. Drexel completed the three-day event with a 1-4 record. The Dragons received a great pitching performance from Devon Grippe (1-0) who pitched four innings in her first outing. She allowed three runs on five hits and didn't factor into the decision as the Dragons were defeated by Ball State. Grippe then pitched a complete game shutout in her second appearance, while the Dragons took an 8-0 victory after six innings against Columbia. Linda Rush helped the offense by posting a .467 batting average and notching the 200th hit of her career.
SCOUTING WAGNER
Wagner competed in its first games of the season at the Scotsman Invitational on Feb. 28. The team went 2-3 with wins over Wright State and Cleveland State.
Bianca Worthy has had an excellent start to her season, batting .533. Worthy drove home one run and scored four times herself.
Drexel and Wagner have an even record against each other winning three games apiece. The last time the two teams met was a doubleheader in the 2018 season. Wagner took the first game by a score of 13-11, and the Dragons took the second game, 14-5.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
Binghamton started the season off with a 1-10 record. Its sole victory was against Georgia Southern by a score of 2-1.
Stephanie Ragusa is batting .400 on the season with a triple and five runs scored.
The Dragons and Bearcats have met a total of five times. The last meeting was in the 2004 season, where the two teams tied.. Currently, the Dragons hold a 3-1-1 record over the Bearcats.
SCOUTING UMBC
UMBC has a 4-7 record heading into the Pirate Invitational with wins against Iona, Seton Hall, Indiana State and its most recent game was on Wednesday. The Retrievers split a doubleheader against Coppin State.
After 11 games, Maddie Daigneau is hitting .387 on the year with three RBIs, one double, one triple and scoring four runs herself.
The last time the two teams have met was in the 2018 campaign. The Dragons won that game 10-8.
SCOUTING ST. PETER'S
St. Peter's will be arriving at Norfolk with a 0-6 record. The Peacocks have struggled this season by being outscored 47-13 in their first six games. Opponents are hitting .373 against the St. Peter's defense.
The matchup on Saturday will be the first meeting between St. Peter's and Drexel.
SCOUTING HAMPTON
Hampton (12-3) will be the most challenging team the Dragons face at the invitational. The Pirates have won against some familiar faces to Drexel Softball in George Washington, Delaware State and Fairleigh Dickinson.
The Pirates have two players batting over .400, including Kiaya Jeusi, who is hitting .469 with three home runs and 23 RBIs.
Drexel holds a 5-3 record over Hampton. Hampton won the last meetup, 5-2, in 2019.

Softball will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to participate in the Rainbow Wahine Classic from March 12 through March 14. The Dragons will face two familiar faces to the top 25 in Minnesota and Texas Tech.
