Daly Pitches No-Hitter, Dragons Split Doubleheader Against Norfolk State

NORFOLK, Va. – Brooklyn Daly made history as she tossed the program's 20th and her second career no-hitter in game one of Sunday's doubleheader at the Pirate Invitational. Drexel (4-6) split the two games with Norfolk State (6-12) by taking the first game, 10-0, and losing the second game, 1-0.
Drexel wrapped up the Pirate Invitational by going 3-2 and outscoring its opponents, 41-14.
Linda Rush hit .461 over the weekend with nine runs scored, five RBIs and four home runs. Kristi DiMeo hit .562 throughout the Pirate Invitational with five runs, a grand slam, and seven RBIs.
GAME ONE
Daly (1-3) pitched her second career no-hitter. She went all five innings and struck out four batters. Daly's first no-hitter was against Cornell on Feb. 23, 2019.
Elena Woulfe went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored one run herself.
Taylor Kent went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and crossed the plate twice.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel scored its first run in the third inning. Woulfe singled up the middle to score Kent.
In the top of the fourth, Hannah Walker hit an RBI single then advanced to second on the throw. Kent was the next to bat and reached on a bunt. Holly Bridgman, who was on third, scored on an error to make the score 3-0.
The Dragons scored the rest of their runs in the top of the fifth. Schable singled up the middle to score DiMeo. Following that at-bat, Megan Trivelpiece hit a single to right-center and scored Rush. Kent then brought home two runs on a single to center field to make the score 8-0. Reilly Jo Swanson hit a fly ball to the center-fielder who dropped the catch. The error allowed Kent to score. To cap off the scoring, Woulfe singled up the middle to bring home Swanson.
Daly completed the no-hitter by setting the Spartans down in order in the bottom of the fifth.
GAME TWO
Devon Grippe (2-1) pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on four hits. Grippe walked one and struck out two.
DiMeo went 2-for-3 along with Walker, who also went 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The lone run of the game came off the bat of Jazzmaine Hammond. She hit an RBI double to right-center.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Dragons will get a short break before flying west to Hawaii to partake in the Rainbow Wahine Classic, starting on Thursday. The tournament field includes top-25 foes in Texas Tech and Minnesota.
