PHILADELPHIA – Drexel dropped a tough conference matchup with William and Mary on Friday afternoon behind a pair of goals from the Tribe. With the loss, the Dragons move to 5-10 overall and 2-2 in CAA play.
The ball spent much of the first quarter on William and Mary's end of the field as the Tribe outshot the Dragons 9-0 and took an early 1-0 lead.
Drexel found its momentum in the offensive zone through the next three quarters as the Dragons outshot the Tribe 16-6. Even though Drexel was able to produce eight total penalty corners and came close to finding the back of the net, William and Mary's defense stood strong. The Tribe held the Dragons scoreless through 60 minutes of play, while adding a second goal in the third quarter to take home a 2-0 victory.
Puk Thewessen was the driving force of the Dragons offense with a team high six total shots and five on goal. Thewessen had help from Hannah Nihill who took two shots on goal and three total on the day.
Drexel will head back on the road on Sunday, Oct. 17 as they take on Lafayette at 1 p.m.
