Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw Against Elon

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team (4-4-1, 2-1-1) played Elon (5-4-1, 2-1-1) to a scoreless draw in the conference matchup on Saturday at Vidas Field. Redshirt-senior goalkeeper Cameron Sanders made three crucial saves in the second half to keep the Phoenix at bay.
Leading the way in the shots column for the Dragons was Valtteri Hiilloskorpi with two shots. The junior added 94 minutes of work for the Dragons. Daniel Nesseler, Michael McCarthy, Joey Martini, Kyle Tucker, Adrien Edo Martin and Harrison Coron all added a shot to the scoreboard.
The Dragons led the Phoenix in shots for the first half of the game, 5-2. Elon, however, drew an advantage in the second half, 8-2. Both teams took a shot in the two overtime periods. The Phoenix finished with the game with a slight edge over the Dragons, 11-8.
The match was a physical contest from the start. Each team drew a red card and multiple cautions through the 110-minute game. The Dragons totaled 16 fouls, while Elon was not far behind with nine fouls.
Sanders earned the third shutout and the third tie of his career in the scoreless match.
The Dragons return to the Vidas pitch on Saturday, October 9, to celebrate their seniors from the 2020 spring season and seniors on this year's roster. The ceremony is slated to begin at 1 p.m., and the game will follow.
