PHILADELPHIA – It is a busy road weekend for the Drexel wrestling team as they travel to Arkansas Little Rock and No. 5 Oklahoma State this Saturday, Nov. 27 and Sunday, Nov. 28 for a pair of dual matches. The Dragons are currently 0-1 in dual competition, after opening the year with a strong matchup against No. 20 Purdue.
VETERAN STRENGTH
The Dragons seasoned veterans continue to drive the teams scoring through three contests. No. 12 Mickey O'Malley, Drexel's star redshirt junior at 174lbs, is off to one of his strongest career starts with a perfect 8-0 record through three contests. O'Malley downed No. 19 nationally ranked Gerrit Nijenhuis (Purdue) in his season debut followed by two shutout performances at both the ESU Open and Keystone Classic, taking home gold at both.
O'Malley is joined by Evan Barczak (165) and Parker Kropman (157), both of whom have set the bar in their respective weight classes. Barczak opened the year with a hard fought 3-0 decision victory over Purdue followed by a first-place finish at the ESU Open and a fourth-place finish at the Keystone Open. The grad student enters a tough weekend of competition with an 8-2 record. Barczak is currently one win away from his 50th career win.
Kropman is also tied for most wins by a Dragon as he holds onto a 8-2 record heading into this weekend. The Rochester, N.Y. native upset No. 9 Kendall Coleman (Purdue) in the Dragons season opener and then placed at both the ESU Open (5th) and the Keystone Classic (3rd).
LITTLE ROCK LOWDOWN
The Trojans are in a similar position as the Dragons heading into their matchup on Saturday. Little Rock opened its first ever home tournament with 25 pins and seven bracket champions. The Trojans then welcomed No. 23 Wisconsin to home turf where they lost a 31-13 matchup to a dominant Badgers team. ALR's performance was highlighted by Jaylen Carson and Triston Wills who wrestled to individual wins at 133lbs and 174lbs.
A TOP 10 MATCHUP
The next stop on the Dragons road tour will take them to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on the No. 6 ranked Cowboys. OSU enters Sunday's matchup with a perfect 2-0 record after collecting two convincing wins over No. 24 Stanford and Minnesota to open their season. In their first two victories, the Cowboys only allowed 13 total points and brought home wins in every weight class except 141lbs, 149lbs and 165lbs. Eight of OSU's starting lineup currently holds a national individual ranking, led by No. 1 ranked AJ Ferrari at 197lbs and No. 2 Daton Fix at 133lbs.
