PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team (17-6, 6-3 CAA) dropped the final game of the series to the Towson Tigers (12-14, 1-8 CAA) on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers pieced together a four-run seventh inning to defeat the Dragons, 8-5.

Olivia Farris started in the circle and went 4.1 innings allowing seven hits and three runs.

Lindsay Nelson (5-2) entered the game in relief and allowed four runs on four hits over 2.2 innings.

Linda Rush went 1-for-2 with a home run. Rush scored three runs, drove home two RBIs and walked twice.

Kristi DiMeo went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the first inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning. After Towson walked Rush, she stole second to put her in position to score. Following the stolen base, DiMeo hit a double down the left field line. Rush scored on the play to give the Dragons an early lead.

In the top of the second, Towson evened the score with a home run to left field.

Drexel struck once more in the bottom of the third. Rush hit her 11th home run of the season to score two runs and give Drexel a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth, Towson chipped away at the Drexel lead by scoring a run. In the fifth inning, the Tigers took a 4-3 lead with a two-run home run.

In the bottom of the fifth, with Rush on second, Megan Trivelpiece singled to left field. A miscue in left field allowed Rush to score and tie the game at four. Swanson hit a ball to second base and scored Trivelpiece from third. At the end of five innings, Drexel had a 5-4 lead.

Towson then pieced together a four-run seventh inning to take the lead and win the game, 8-5.

The Dragons are scheduled to host the Penn Quakers in a single game on Wednesday, April 21. The game is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
