NEW HAVEN, CT – The Dragons offense continued to fire on all cylinders on Sunday afternoon but came up just short in a tight battle with Yale University, 4-3. With the loss, Drexel falls to 3-7 on the season heading into conference play next weekend.
Puk Thewessen gave Drexel the early advantage on the teams second penalty corner of the day. Thewessen's third goal of the year came on an assist from Avery Powell who provided a strong insert from the goal line.
After netting two goals on Friday, Eline Di Leva drove into the Bulldogs zone and found the left side of the net, giving the Dragons a 2-0 lead to open the second. Drexel's defense balanced things out on the opposite end, allowing the Dragons to take the lead into the half.
The Bulldogs answered back with two goals of their own in the third to tie the game with eight minutes left in the quarter. Shannon Tringola allowed the Dragons to regain the lead with seven seconds remaining, recording her first goal of the season on a feed from Di Leva.
Yale took its first lead of the afternoon on a penalty corner in the 51st minute. Drexel created several scoring opportunities in the fourth quarter but couldn't find a hole in the Bulldogs defense to regain the lead before the buzzer.
The Dragons are set to open conference play this weekend as they host Towson on Friday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m.
