Dragons Roll To Victory Against The Pride

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's basketball team outscored the Hofstra Pride 19-4 in the second quarter as the Dragons won their ninth consecutive game with a 72-53 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Drexel plays its third game in five days, hosting Towson in a showdown at the top of the CAA standings on Tuesday, January 18. The game is a reschedule of a contest that was postponed on December 31. Tipoff from the Daskalakis Athletic Center is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Keishana Washington led all scorers in the game with 22 points, her fifth game this season with 20 or more. She shot 4-for-6 from three-point range.
- Tessa Brugler posted 13 points.
- Three players had seven or more in the game as Maura Hendrixson and Mariah Leonard scored eight and Hannah Nihill tallied seven. Nihill also had seven assists and did not commit a turnover. Leonard chipped in five rebounds and four assists.
- All 13 available players appeared for Drexel with 10 finding the scoring column.
- The Dragons had 22 assists on 25 made baskets. It is the third time this season, DU recorded 22+ assists.
- Drexel also shot 50 percent from the field for the third time this year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing by two early, the Dragons went on an 8-2 run, taking a 12-8 lead at the first media timeout. All the points were scored by Washington who hit a pull-up jumper and a pair of threes in the stretch.
- The offensive surge continued through the remainder of the quarter as Drexel outscored Hofstra 12-5 in the final six minutes of the frame and held a 18-11 lead after 10 minutes.
- Growing the lead in the second quarter, DU outscored Hofstra 19-4 in the stanza, getting seven points from Washington, five each from Nihill and Hendrxison, and a pair from Hetta Saatman at the line as the Dragons went on top by 22 at the half.
- Brugler led the way for Drexel in the third with six points, all in the first five minutes of the period, helping the Dragons to a 59-35 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
