PHILADELPHIA - Amari Williams slammed home a feed from Camren Wynter with 1.7 seconds to play to give Drexel an unlikely 80-79 win against the College of Charleston. Drexel trailed for the entire game until Williams scored the final points on Senior Night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. With the win the Dragons won their 10th Colonial Athletic Association game of the season, the most they have won since the 2011-12 season. Drexel is now 10-8 in league play and 15-13 overall. Charleston fell to 16-13 overall and 8-9 in CAA play.
The Dragons trailed by as many as 16 points with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Drexel tried to chip away, but when John Meeks scored with 5:37 to play, Charleston still led by 11 points. The Dragons responded with 10 straight points, six coming from Xavier Bell, to slice the lead to just one at 71-70. The teams went back and forth with Charleston holding the lead the entire way. Charleston's Brendan Tucker put back an offensive rebound to extend the lead to three with 53 seconds left, but Wynter drove on the next possession and was sent to the line. He made both with 30 seconds left, trimming the lead to 77-76. Tucker and Drexel's Coletrane Washington each made both ends of one-and-ones as Charleston held the one-point led with only 15 ticks remaining on the clock. Drexel was forced to foul and send Dimitrius Underwood to the line. Underwood, who had a phenomenal game with 23 points and six assists, missed the front end of the one and one and Drexel set up what proved to be the game winning basket.
Wynter and Bell each scored 18 points to lead the Dragons. Wynter also finished with a season-best 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals. Bell was a productive 8-for-12 from the floor and made both of his 3-point attempts. Washington had 14 points in the game, while Williams finished with his second-straight double-double and his sixth of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Charleston shot 52 percent from the floor in the game. Underwood was 10-for-15 from the field, while Meeks came off then bench to score 16 points.
Butler, Matey Juric, Melik Martin, Washington and Wynter played in their final home game at the DAC. With his 18 points, Wynter moved into seventh place on Drexel's career scoring list with 1,629 points.
Drexel will begin play in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Dragons will be either the fourth or fifth seed in the tournament depending on the outcome of the Delaware-Towson game on Monday.
