HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons took a quick advantage in the first inning. Clinton got to work in the game's first at-bat, hitting an infield single. The right fielder then stole second and set up a prime opportunity for Drexel. Jackie Masone moved Clinton to third on a ground out to shortstop, and Kristi DiMeo hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score the first run of the game. The RBI was DiMeo's 200th of her career, making her the second player in program history to reach 200 RBI's
Coppin State answered with a three-run inning at the bottom of the frame. The Eagles used a single and a walk to put runners on first and second. A passed ball allowed the runners to advance into scoring position. Another single scored CSU's first two runs of the game. A double a couple of batters later plated the third run.
Abbonizio hit a single to left field in the top of the second and scored Garcia from third. At the end of their frame in the second, Drexel was down by one, 3-2.
Coppin State used a double down the left field line in the bottom of the second inning to score its fourth run of the game.
In the top of the fourth, Clinton came up with the biggest at-bat of the game. She sent a ball to the gap in left-center and rounded the bases. The hit plated Abbonizio from first and Garcia on third.
CSU took back the lead in the fourth with an RBI ground out to first base. Coppin had a 5-4 lead at the end of the fourth.
Once again, Drexel did not waver. The away team received a single up the middle from Garcia to score Brianna Alimillo from second.
In the sixth, Drexel took the lead, scoring the game's final two runs. Clinton hit a double to right-center and scored Abbonizio. Ashley Errico then singled to left field and scored Clinton later in the inning.
GAME TWO
In game two, Brooklyn Daly (4-2) started in the circle and went four innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Jessica Schable entered the game in relief and finished out the game, pitching one inning only allowing a hit.
Errico went 1-for-3 in game two. The sophomore rounded the bases in grand fashion as she hit her fourth home run of the season.
Clinton also went 1-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
The Dragons scored 15 runs on 12 hits and drew seven walks in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel scored its runs in batches. Maddie Kapsimalis hit an RBI single up the middle in the second inning to score Megan Trivelpiece from third. A couple of batters later, the Dragons loaded the bases in time for their hottest hitter, Clinton. The right fielder hit a triple to center field and cleared the bases to score three runs. Clinton scored on the next at-bat on Masone's ground out.
The Dragons returned in the top of the fourth and put up their most successful inning this season. DU scored 10 runs. Mia Garza hit an RBI single to left field and scored Errico. Kapsimalis singled to center to score Trivelpiece, and the Dragons drew four free bases via the walk and hit by a pitch to put three more runs on the board. Finally, after the lineup turned over, Errico hit a grand slam to left field. Drexel had a 15-0 lead at the end of the fourth.
CSU used a pair of doubles to put two runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but it was not enough to keep the game from ending.
With the Dragons up 13, the game ended after five innings.
