Dragons Fall to Elon in Doubleheader

ELON, N.C. – The Drexel softball team fell to the Elon Phoenix in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Phoenix took game one, 4-2, and won the second game, 9-6.
GAME ONE
Brooklyn Daly (9-3) started in the circle for the Dragons and went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits.
Kristi DiMeo went 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI in the first game of the game. Lily Meunink went 1-for-1 and was responsible for Drexel's second run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Elon scored a pair of runs in the second inning of the game. The Phoenix hit an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to right field to take a 2-0 lead.
Drexel scored its first run in the third inning after DiMeo checked in with a single through the left side.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Phoenix hit a two-run RBI to left field and extended their lead to 4-1. However, the Dragons chipped away at the deficit. Lily Meuninck hit a single into shallow right field to push the score to 4-2.
GAME TWO
Lindsay Nelson started game two in the circle and went five and a third in the effort, holding the Phoenix to three runs on seven hits. Meghan Conroy (5-4) entered the game in relief for the Dragons in the bottom of the seventh.
Ashley Errico entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and hit a grandslam to tie the game for Drexel.
Savaanah Garcia went 2-for-3 in game two with a pair of singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Elon scored its first run in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to right field. The lead, did not last for long, a half of a frame later, Megan Trivelpiece reached on a fielder's choice and Maddie Kapsimalis scored on a muffed throw.
In the bottom of the sixth, Elon scored five runs to take a 6-1 lead. Drexel rallied in the seventh and tied the game. Errico launched her 10th home run of the season in grand fashion.
In the bottom of the seventh, Elon hit a three-run home run to win the game.
WHAT'S NEXT
Drexel returns to Elon on Sunday, April 17 to face the Phoenix in the series finale. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
