Dragons Edged by Villanova, 6-4

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team was defeated in a single game matchup against Villanova (23-19) on Tuesday afternoon. The Dragons (20-16) scored three runs in the first inning and a run in the seventh but could not overcome the deficit, 6-4.
The Dragons used all five of their pitchers in the single game. Meghan Conroy started in the circle and allowed three runs on four hits through two innings of work. Brooklyn Daly entered the game in relief and went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits. The third pitcher to enter the contest was Megan Kyte, the sophomore held Villanova to just two hits through an inning of work. Lindsay Nelson took over in the sixth inning and pitched a near-perfect inning, holding the Wildcats to just one walk. Lastly, Jessica Schable closed the game for Drexel, holding VU to one run on two hits.
Jackie Masone went 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI.
Sarah Clinton hit a sharp double down the line to drive in a run for Drexel.
Kristi DiMeo hit a two-run home run in the first inning. The home run is DiMeo's sixth home run of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Villanova scored its first two runs in the first inning. The Wildcats scored their first run by a stolen base and a throwing miscue. Nova then hit a double to right center and scored its second run.
In the bottom of the first, Drexel tabbed three runs. Clinton hit her double down the left field line and scored Masone, who was on second due to a passed ball. Immediately after, DiMeo hit the home run to right field. Drexel had a 3-2 lead at the end of the first.
Villanova tied the game in the top of the second and then took the lead in the third inning. The Wildcats then added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to stretch the lead to 6-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Masone singled up the middle and scored Izzy Alamillo, who was pinch-running for Megan Trivelpiece.

The Dragons travel across University City and play the Penn Quakers in a single game starting at 4 p.m.
