Drexel Uses Five-Run Fourth Inning to Deafeat Seton Hall, 7-2

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Drexel softball team ended exploded with a five-run fourth inning to defeat the Seton Hall Pirates, 7-2, in South Orange, N.J.
Brooklyn Daly (10-7) started the game in the circle for Drexel and went four innings. The graduate student held the Pirates to one run on three hits. Meghan Conroy entered the game in relief and tossed three innings while holding Seton Hall to one run on four hits.
Kristi DiMeo went 2-for-4 with a home run and a single. The home run is DiMeo's seventh of the season. On top of her performance today, DiMeo moves to 10 hits out from the program record and also is eight games away from breaking the program record in games played.
Sarah Clinton went 2-for-3 at the leadoff spot with a three-run home run in the fourth. Clinton also crossed the plate during DiMeo's round-tripper.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. After Clinton hit a single, DiMeo hit a ball to left center to give Drexel its 2-0 lead.
Seton Hall scored its first run in the bottom of the first, scoring off a bases-loaded walk.
The game fell quiet until the top of the fifth when the Drexel offense broke open the game, scoring five runs. Savaanah Garcia hit a double to right center and plated two runs with the bases loaded. Turning the lineup over, Clinton hit her ball to right center and cleared the fence to empty the bags and give Drexel the 7-1 lead.
The Pirates scored their second run of the game in the seventh inning. However, the Drexel defense immediately shut the Seton Hall offense down and held the damage to just one.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Dragons play a doubleheader against Lafayette on Thursday, April 28, at 2 p.m. Drexel will then travel north to Hempstead, N.Y., to face the Pride in a three-game series, beginning on Saturday, April 30.
