Dragons Complete Doubleheader Sweep Against Lafayette

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team swept the Lafayette Leopards in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field. Drexel (23-20) defeated Lafayette (8-31) in the first game, 6-0, then completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory in game two.
GAME ONE
Lindsay Nelson (5-7) earned the start in the circle in game one. The junior tossed seven shutout innings and held the Leopards to four hits. It was the first complete-game shutout of her career.
Three different Dragons had multi-hit games in the first game. Ameryn Humble went 3-for-4. Mia Garza and Lily Meuninck both went 2-for-3.
Humble hit a single in the third inning to drive in her first RBI of the game. In the fifth, she picked up her second RBI on a double to right field.
Garza hit two singles and also was responsible for two RBIs.
Meuninck checked in with the first home run of her career on Thursday afternoon. The freshman hit a ball on a line to center and gave Drexel a 4-0 lead in the fifth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
From the start, Drexel had an edge, collecting 10 hits. The Dragons broke through in the third with a pair of runs. Humble sent a ball back up the middle to score Izzy Alamillo. Drexel scored a run on a play where Garza reached on a Fielder's Choice to end the inning.
Meuninck hit a home run to center field in the fourth and scored two runs. Drexel had a 4-0 lead at the end of the inning.
The Dragons finished the scoring barrage in the fifth. Humble started it off by doubling to right field and scoring Garcia. Garza then hit a single to right center and scored Humble from second.
GAME TWO
Jessica Schable (3-2) pitched a complete game in game two, holding Lafayette to just one run on four hits.
Seven of the nine starters tallied a hit in game two.
Humble went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and one RBI.
Sarah Clinton went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the second inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons carried their hot bats into game two, scoring three runs in the first inning. Errico hit a single through the right side to score Alamillo. Humble reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop and scored Kristi DiMeo. To cap off Drexel's frame, Humble scored on a passed ball.
In the second inning, Sarah Clinton hit a home run to center field and gave Drexel a four-run lead.
The Dragons scored two more runs to extend their lead to six. Garza hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field. Humble scored on the play. After Trivelpiece hit a double to left center, Lana Mooney entered the game to pinch run. A Maddie Kapsimalis single immediately brought her in.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Dragons travel to Hempstead, N.Y., to face the Hofstra Pride in a crucial three-game series beginning on Saturday. The Dragons will play two to start the weekend and return to play a series finale on Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for noon.
