Drexel Falls in Doubleheader Against Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Drexel softball team fell to the Hofstra Pride in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30. The Pride (18-24, 11-5 CAA) took game one, 5-1, and then took game two from the Dragons (23-23, 4-13 CAA)
GAME ONE
Brooklyn Daly (10-8) started in the circle and went all six innings. The graduate student held Hofstra to six his and struck three batters out.
Sarah Clinton went 1-for-3 with a single and was responsible for Drexel's lone run of the game.
Savaanah Garcia went 1-for-2 and scored the Dragons' run in the third inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pride took the lead in the first inning. After getting two runners on, Hofstra sent a ball over the centerfield wall to take a 3-0 lead.
Drexel chipped away at the deficit in the top of the third by scoring a run. Garcia hit a double to left center and eventually scored after Clinton hit a single to right field.
Hofstra scored the run back and tacked on one more in the bottom of the third.
GAME TWO
Lindsay Nelson (5-8) went all six in the circle for Drexel. The junior
Clinton went 1-for-4 in game two and drove in the first of Drexel's two runs.
Izzy Alamillo also went 1-for-4 with an RBI single.
Grace Abbonizio and Maddie Kapsimalis did not record an at bat, but both scored for Drexel.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was quiet until the fourth inning. Drexel drew a pair of four-pitch walks and set the table for a big inning. Clinton hit a single that dropped into center field and scored Grace Abbonizio from second. Immediately following the RBI single, Izzy Alamillo hit a perfectly placed ball into left center and scored Kapsimalis.
Hofstra scored a run to cut the deficit to just one at the bottom of the fourth. The Pride took the lead in the fifth after scoring four in the fifth inning. At the end of the fifth, Hofstra led, 5-2.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Dragons and Pride will meet in a series finale on Sunday, May 1 at noon.
