Women's Lacrosse Historic Campaign Closes In NCAA First Round

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Drexel University women's lacrosse team saw its historic season come to a close in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament with a 16-4 loss at No. 8 Stony Brook on Friday afternoon.
Drexel won its first ever Colonial Athletic Association championship. The Dragons went 12-8 this season, tied for the second most wins in a year in program history. Drexel also competed in its second consecutive NCAA Tournament, a first for the program.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, Schneidereith put Drexel on the board when she scored on the free position at the 5:38 mark. Zoe Bennett helped to keep the Dragons close, making four saves in the period. The Seawolves recorded two more tallies, the last with 100 seconds left in the quarter. With time winding down, DU got one of the goals back as Grady posted a strong individual effort to close to 4-2 at the end of the period.
SBU looked as if it was going to pull away, methodically extending the lead to 7-2 with just less than seven minutes left into the second. Drexel clawed back into the mix with a pair of goals in 45 seconds as Schneidereith and Bednarik scored in quick succession, slicing the edge to 7-4 at intermission.
An early second half spurt for Stony Brook saw the Seawolves pull away. Drexel continued to battle as the game went on and Bennett went on to make five second half save.

- Lucy Schneidereith led the offense with a pair of goals on the afternoon. She also topped the Dragons with a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls.
- Corinne Bednarik and Colleen Grady each scored for Drexel. Grady tallied an assist as well.
- Karson Harris had a season-high 11 draw controls, one shy of her career best. She won every draw that DU was victorious with. Harris finishes with 351 career draws, the most in CAA history.
