Dragons and Delaware Meet in CAA Semifinals on Thursday

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's lacrosse team will look to defend its Colonial Athletic Association championship beginning Thursday right here in Philadelphia. Drexel, this year's host school, will meet the top-seeded Delaware Blue Hens in the semifinal at 4 p.m. The winner will face either Towson or UMass in the title game on Saturday.
THE SERIES
Delaware holds a 48-28 in the all-time series. Earlier this season, the Blue Hens defeated Drexel in a matchup that came down to the game's final seconds. Mike Robinson picked up a loose ball in front of the Drexel net and fired home the game-winner with just 10 seconds left to give the Blue Hens a 16-15 win. Tye Kurtz had eight goals to lead UD. Drexel midfielder Jack Mulcahy led the Dragons with six points. The senior scored four goals and added two assists in the effort. The meeting on Thursday will be just the third time that the two teams will meet in the CAA Championship. The Blue Hens defeated Drexel in the previous two games.
ABOUT DREXEL
Drexel, the reigning CAA Champions, are 6-7 this season after falling to UMass in their regular-season finale. The Dragons are second in the CAA in goals per game with 12.60 and lead the conference in points per game with 20.20.
Drexel has had a nice balance between veteran leadership and new talent all season long. Mulcahy is one of the top offensive players in the CAA and leads the team with 25 assists and 44 points. Senor Ryan Genord has had a solid season with 26 goals and 14 assists. Redshirt freshman Max Semple has 34 goals in just 12 games and has 39 points. Ross Blumenthal is Drexel's starter in the cage and has posted a career-best save percentage.
ABOUT DELAWARE
The Blue Hens enter Thursday's semifinal matchup with a 9-5 record and a 3-2 mark in conference play. The Blue Hens have played their share of close games and have outscored their conference opponents by just two goals (62-60). Delaware got off to a slow start but played well down the stretch, winning its final three games to take the top seed in the conference.
Robinson leads the Delaware offensive unit with 41 goals and 10 assists for 51 points. J.P. Ward is tops on the club with 52 points. He had three goals and three assists against Drexel earlier this season. Kurtz has 34 goals and 46 points.
