Women's Lacrosse Strikes Late To Advance To CAA Championship Game

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's lacrosse team scored four times in a five minute span late in the fourth quarter as the Dragons advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association championship game with a 14-10 victory against the third-seeded Hofstra Pride on Friday evening.
With the win, Drexel faces Towson on Sunday, May 8 at 12:00 p.m. for the CAA title and an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
HIGHLIGHTS
FIRST QUARTER – Drexel 5, Hofstra 2
The Pride got the jump just 74 seconds into the game before Grady knotted the score at 11:36. After Hofstra went back on top, Drexel scored Simpson, Schneidereith, Grady, and Drake all scored between the 7:58 and 1:50 marks to push the Dragons up by three after the first 15 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER – Drexel 6, Hofstra 4
The offense cooled in the second period with the Pride netting a pair, climbing to within one before Bednarik posted her first of the day with 1:34 left before halftime, sending Drexel into the break ahead by two.
THIRD QUARTER – Drexel 10, Hofstra 6
Coming out of intermission, the Dragons were the first on the board as Grady completed her hat trick just 47 second into the third. Dean, Harris, and Drake each tallied once over the course of 3:56 as Drexel took a 10-5 lead. A goal by Hofstra late made it a four-goal game heading into the final period.
FOURTH QUARTER – Drexel 14, Hofstra 10
The closing marker of the third put momentum on the side of the Pride, who came out roaring with four goals in the opening seven minutes of the fourth to tie the score at 10-10. Needing to wrest the game back in its favor, the Dragons got the goal they needed as Simpson fed Bednarik in front of the net for the go-ahead tally. The goal ignited the DU, which scored three more times in the next four minutes, two on free position shots by Harris to survive and advance.

- Karson Harris and Colleen Grady topped the goal scoring column for the Dragons with three each and both recorded an assist. Harris added four draw controls.
- Corinne Bednarik, Allison Drake, and Lucy Schneidereith each scored twice. Bednarik added three ground balls and tied for the Drexel lead with Maura Cissel at five draw controls.
- Hayleigh Simpson and Lindsey Dean each found the back of the net once. Simpson contributed an assist as well.
- Peighton Bement had a pair of caused turnovers.
- It is the second consecutive season that DU has advanced to the CAA title game.
