Drexel Athletics Raises a Record $470,000 During 24 Hours of Impact

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel Athletics led the way and set new records for overall donations and dollars raised during 24 Hours of Impact the University's annual Day of Giving on May 4. Close to 4,000 gifts were made and over $472,000 were contributed, nearly double the previous record, to ensure the success of Dragons' student-athletes and enhance their experience on campus.
Collectively, Drexel's athletics programs accounted for over 66 percent of the donations on the day, including taking home the top four spots and finishing with eight of the top 10 campus organizations in overall gifts.
"The success of our Day of Giving is a testament to the committed alumni, family, friends and student-athletes who have experienced the impact of Drexel Athletics and want to grow our reach," said Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly. "Thank you to everyone who participated in contributing to the lifeline of our program."
Several teams set new records during the day, including women's rowing, which unseated wrestling to claim the top spot with 652 donations. Wrestling finished second with 641 gifts, followed by Women's Swimming and Diving with 495 and Men's Crew with 485. Men's Soccer placed sixth (332 donations), Field Hockey finished eighth (298), Women's Lacrosse ninth (252) and Women's Soccer (177) rounded out the top 10.
Men's Lacrosse set the pace for the day and led all teams with $53,544 and were closely followed by wrestling which raised $50,315, surpassing $50,000 for the second consecutive year. Fueled by matching gift challenges, several other programs received record donations, including men's rowing ($43,538), golf ($39,063), field hockey ($38,564), women's rowing ($37,668) and men's basketball ($37,117), while women's basketball ($28,508), men's soccer ($22,897), men's squash ($22,091) and women's squash ($21,575) also surpassed $20,000 during the day.
"This effort could not be achieved without the creativity and hard work put forward by our development and alumni team of Kerry DiBlasio, Mary Moran Braun and Phil Denne. Our communication and presence throughout the day demonstrates how we can grow our brand and opportunity as we elevate Drexel Athletics."
Athletics' teams also demonstrated their competitiveness by winning eight University challenges and placing in the top three in three others throughout the day to secure $17,575 in additional funds for their programs. Men's rowing captured three challenges, including the Student Challenge, Parent Challenge and Alumni Challenge. Women's Rowing (All Donor Challenge), Women's Swimming and Diving (Alumni Challenge) and Wrestling (Student Challenge) also captured one challenge each. In addition, Athletics won the day's two employee challenges.
"The record outpouring of support for Drexel Athletics during 24 Hours of Impact is a testament to the collective passion for the Dragons. We're grateful to the generous donors who got in the game to support our programs, as well as the partnership of our coaches, student-athletes and colleagues across the University who put in the work to make the day a tremendous success," said Kerry DiBlasio, assistant vice president, development.
