PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team defeated the Lehigh Mountain Hawks in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening, 4-0. The Dragons improved to 6-1-4 overall and are 4-0-1 at home. Also, with the victory, Drexel pushed its home winning streak to 11, as the team has not lost at Vidas Field since September 6, 2022.

The Dragons controlled the pace for the entirety of the contest. Striking first in the 24th minute. In a play that originated off a shot by Dominick Bachstein that was saved and deflected by the Lehigh keeper to the foot of Antonio Illuminato. The graduate student then initiated a give-and-go play with Carles Aliberch, and it was executed to perfection as Illuminato scored the second goal of the season.

The second goal, scored in the 44th minute of the contest, was very similar to the first. A shot by Isaiah Whittaker-Francis was deflected by a defender and bounced to the left of the six-yard box, where Harrison Coron played a cross on the ground to the streaking Yassine Elkahloun, who scored his first goal of the season.

When the two teams split for halftime, Drexel had a massive margin in shots, outshooting the visitors by 12. In the second half, the game plan did not change for head coach Mark Fetrow's squad. The Dragons took 11 more in the backend of the match.

In the 64th minute, Drexel was awarded a penalty kick for a foul inside the penalty box. Stephen Appiah took the shot for Drexel and buried it to triple the Drexel lead. The goal was Appiah's first of his career.

The Dragons capped their scoring spree in the 78th minute. Christian Combs played a ball into the penalty box, and Joshua Pulla played it back to Aliberch, who beat the Mountain Hawks keeper to his right. The goal was Aliberch's first of his Drexel career.

Drexel returns to action on Saturday, October 14, in its final home conference match of 2023. The UNCW Seahawks will visit West Philadelphia to face the Dragons in a contest slated to begin at 1 p.m.
