PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team played the Delaware Blue Hens to a 3-3 tie at Vidas Field on Saturday afternoon. With the tie, Drexel moves to a 5-1-4 overall record with a 2-1-3 tab in conference play, with two league matches to play.
Delaware was the first to strike in the fourth minute of the game. The Blue Hens drew a penalty kick after there was a handball inside the penalty box. The PK was taken by Sam Donnellan and it was initially stopped by Alessandro Capogna, the Drexel keeper, but the spin of the ball found its way across the line.
The Blue Hen lead only lasted for three minutes as Drexel drew a penalty kick on the other side of the field. Antonio Illuminato converted the PK, which was the graduate students first of the year.
With exactly 25 minutes left to play in the first half, Drexel took the lead. Dominick Bachstein worked off of a pass from Cesar Banacloy and powered in his fifth goal of the season. The assist was Banacloy's fourth of the season.
Delaware scored in the 39th minute to even the score at two and send the match into halftime knotted up.
In the 64th minute of the game, Ori Arzi scored Drexel's third goal, and his first goal of the season. The goal, at the time, was to be Drexel's winning goal. Delaware scored the equalizer with one minute and 13 seconds remaining.
Drexel returns to action on Tuesday, October 10 to face the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. First tap is slated for 5 p.m.
