Dragons Upended by Queens University, 6-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Drexel softball team was upended in the fifth and final game of the USC Upstate Wings Etc. Classic on Sunday morning. The Dragons played against the Queens University Royals and fell, 6-2.
Lindsay Nelson (1-4) started for Drexel in the circle. The senior went four innings and struck four Royals out. Jessica Schable entered the game in relief and pitched three innings, holding Queens to just two hits.
Lily Meuninck, now leading the team in RBI, hit the first home run of her sophomore season. The first basemen hit .290 over the three-day classic and tallied two runs, two doubles and seven RBIs.
Kylee Guerrera continued to raise her batting average. Entering the day with a .291 batting average. The junior went 2-for-3 and raised her average to a share of the team-leading mark of .333.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Queens jumped out to a quick start in the first inning, scoring two runs. In the bottom of the second, Drexel evened the score at two. With Ashley Errico on base, Meuninck sent a 1-0 pitch to center field.
The Royals took the lead in the fourth inning by scoring two runs. In the fifth and sixth innings, Queens tacked on two more insurance runs.
UP NEXT
Drexel travels north to Queens, N.Y. to play in the Red Storm Classic, hosted by St. John's. The Dragons will play the hosts and Quinnipiac once and will face Merrimack three times over the course of the weekend. The first game the Dragons will appear in will be against Merrimack at 9:30 a.m. Following the game, Drexel will get a small break to regroup and gear up to face the Red Storm at 12 p.m.
