
Dragons Defeat Hampton, 18-4, For Third Straight Win

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's lacrosse team won its third straight game on Saturday with an 18-4 win against Hampton in a Colonial Athletic Association contest. Drexel is now 5-3 this season and 2-0 in CAA play.
The Dragons scored the first seven goals of the game and never trailed. Drexel scored five of those in the first period as Sean Donnelly began the scoring and completed the scoring in the opening 15 minutes. In between, Jack Joyner, Max Semple and Josh Gabriele found the net as the Dragons dominated play, outshooting the Pirates 14-4 in the quarter.
Matt Martin and Ronnie Gunter each scored their first of the year before the Pirates (2-7) got on the board with an Ellison Burt-Murray goal at the 13:53 mark of the second. Each team added another before intermission, with the home team holding an 8-2 advantage.
Coach Voelker emptied the Drexel bench in the third and fourth quarter and Drexel's reserves continued to put the pressure on the Hampton defense. Drexel had 12 different players score at least one goal in the contest and four Dragons scored for the first time. In addition to Gabriele, Cole Doller, Finn Halladay and Connor McVicker found the net for the first time on Saturday.
Donnelly had his fourth hat trick of the season for Drexel. Freshman Jack Joyner assisted on three goals and scored one of his one. Semple, Zach Augustine and Carter Begley each had two goals and an assist. Ross Blumenthal played the first three quarters and made five saves while allowing just three goals. Drew McGill and Charlie Schline also played in the cage for DU and had three stops each.
David Sadasivam made 17 saves in goal for the Pirates. Andre Myers, DyJae Pearson and Jayden Price had Hampton's other goals. Drexel outshot the Pirates, 50-35, and won 14 of 25 face-offs.
The Dragons will head to Fairfield for a conference game next Saturday at noon.
