Drexel Defeats St. John's on Final Day of Red Storm Classic

QUEENS, N.Y. – The Drexel softball team split a doubleheader on Sunday, March 5 on the final day of the Red Storm Classic, hosted by St. John's. Drexel defeated the hosts, 3-0, to begin the day and then fell to Quinnipiac, 3-1.
GAME ONE
Jessica Schable (2-5) started in the circle and threw a complete game shutout, holding St. John's to just three hits and a walk. The senior fanned three batters in her first career complete game shutout.
Ashley Errico went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double in the sixth inning. Ameryn Humble drove in the run that proved to be the game-winner. The junior went 1-for-3 with a single, an RBI and also scored a run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was locked at zero until the sixth inning. The Dragons broke through and into the score column with a productive sixth inning. Humble got the scoring started with a single that scored Alamillo. A batter later, Errico hit a double that scored Humble and Lana Mooney.
GAME TWO
Lindsay Nelson (1-6) took to the circle in game two and threw six innings, holding the Bobcats to five hits and fanning two batters.
Grace Abbonizio helped the Dragons cash in their lone run. Devyn Demchak went 2-for-3 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Like the first game, the game was at a standstill until the fifth inning. However, Drexel broke the tie with a sac fly to right field. Mia Garza scored on the play. The lead did not hold for long. In the bottom of the fifth, Quinnipiac hit a three-run double to take the lead.
UP NEXT
The Dragons will be on the road on March 11 and 12 but will still be relatively local. Drexel travels to Dover, Del., to play a pair of games against Delaware State and UAlbany.
