McHugh, Bednarik Named to IWLCA All-Region Teams

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Corinne Bednarik and Belle McHugh have been named to the IWLCA All-Region Teams announced Thursday afternoon. Bednarik earned a nod to the first team and McHugh to the second team. The IWLCA recognized 128 student-athletes to one of the All-Region teams for 2023. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team.

#2 Corinne Bednarik - Sr. / A/M
Bednarik was the CAA's top-scoring attacker with 46 goals and 22 assists while adding 66 draw controls to her stats. The senior from Glenmoore, Pa. has found 2.71 goals and 4.12 points per game which ranks third in the CAA. Additionally, she is tied with teammate Maura Cissel for sixth in the conference with 4.06 draws per game. The captain also collected USA Lacrosse Magazine National Player of the Week honors in March and a CAA Player of the Week accolade in February. Bednarik was honored as CAA Attacker of the Year and her second First Team All-CAA recognition last week. Last week, the attacker was honored by USA Lacrosse Magazine as an honorable mention All-American.
#16 Belle McHugh- Sr. / D
McHugh has led a defensive unit that is 16th in the NCAA in scoring defense at 9.19 goals/game. The captain has 20 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers, and found seven draw controls. She held San Diego State's top scorer to two tallies in a matchup on March 28 and guided the Dragons to an overtime victory over Temple in April with three caused turnovers. McHugh was named to the First Team All-CAA last week. In the CAA semifinals, the captain earned a ground ball and caused a turnover against the Tigers.
Drexel faces No. 11 Maryland in the First Round of the NCAA Championships from Harrisonburg, Va. Friday's game will be aired on ESPN+ at 5:00 p.m. This is the Dragons' third consecutive appearance in the tournament. The NCAA contest will be a regular season rematch from February 21 when the Terps won 15-9 at Vidas Field.
