VILLANOVA – A goal by Sebastian Perez-Gasiba in the 82nd minute secured a one goal draw against the Villanova Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon at Higgins Soccer Complex.
The Dragons received a career match from Raphael Bartell in goal. The junior posted a career-high in saves, stopping a total of shots.
The Wildcats scored their lone brace in the 58th minute of the match. Jason Bouregy scored off a pass by Jordan Canica.
In the 82nd minute, Drexel evened the match. Giancarlo Vaccaro created space by making a move on the baseline and crossing the ball into the box. Perez-Gasiba broke free from his defender and finished the play, powering the ball past the Nova keeper. The goal is Perez-Gasiba's first of his career.
Drexel finishes the regular season on Saturday, October 2 against Charleston. The match plays a critical role in Drexel's playoff chances. A win against Charleston will clinch the team home field advantage in the conference semifinals. If Drexel wins against the Cougars and Elon loses against Campbell, the Dragons will be the CAA Regular Season Champions and the top seed in the tournament. A draw will clinch a spot for the Dragons and a loss will require some help from around the league to earn a spot in the tournament.
Play between the Cougars and Dragons is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from Vidas Field on Saturday.
