Dragons Fall Short to Sacred Heart, 3-2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Drexel softball team was defeated in the final game of the UNC Greensboro Spiro Classic by the Sacred Heart Pioneers, 3-2.
Natalie Alldred started the game and pitched two innings, allowing five hits and two runs. Allison Hoppe entered in relief and finished the game, pitching five innings and holding the Pioneers to just one run and four hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sacred Heart scored a run in both the first and second innings of the game. In the first, a single to right center put the Pioneers ahead. In the second, the lead doubled the lead with another RBI single up the middle.
In the bottom of the fourth, Drexel received back-to-back home runs to tie the game at two. Calugay hit her second round-tripper to lead the Dragons comeback. Immediately after, Garza hit a solo shot to left center on a 3-1 count to tie the game.
An inning later, Sacred Heart hit a solo home run themselves to take back the lead, which proved to be the game-winner.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Dragons travel to Clinton, S.C. on March 1 to participate in the Presbyterian Scotsman Invitational. Drexel plays five games in the span of three days, beginning with a doubleheader against Queens (N.C.) on Friday, beginning at 12:15 p.m. On Saturday, the hosts, Presbyterian, host Drexel in a doubleheader beginning at noon. The Dragons play Presbyterian one more time on Sunday at 10 a.m. to close the invitational.
