Sebastian Smith and Jakub Kwasny Finish Final Night of CAA Championships With Gold Medals

HAMPTON, Va. – Sebastian Smith and Jakub Kwasny both collected gold medals as Drexel men's swimming and diving wrapped up competition Saturday night at the CAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Smith had another career performance in the 100 free. The sophomore set a program record in the prelim, hitting the wall at a time of 43.05. This broke Joel Berryman's previous record set in the CAA Championship in 2016. Smith went on to the A Final and secured another gold medal, coming in just shy of his prelim time at 43.08.
DU dominated the 200 fly, with Jakub Kwasny snatching a gold medal. Kwasny advanced to the A Final, finishing with a time of 1:43.77, about 1.5 seconds over silver position. His time broke his own program record of 1:44.45, set in the 2023 CAAs. Alessio Gianni finished just behind his fellow Dragon for the Bronze medal at a time of 1:46:85, a personal best.
Gianni, Andrea Casini, Kwasny and Smith teamed in the 400 free relay. The team set a program record on their way to a silver medal finish, coming in with a time of 2:54.72. This broke the record of 2:55.26 set in the CAAs in 2023.
In the 200 breast, Kasper Karnik captured a bronze medal. The senior moved on to the A Final, touching the wall at 1:57.46 just .08 seconds in front of fourth.
Dimi Gkelis had a victory of his own, with the freshman winning the 200 back C Final at a time of 1:44.64, a personal best.
The Dragons ended the fourth night of competition in fourth with 482.5 points. Drexel finished the CAA Championships with four gold medals, four silver medals and three bronze medals. UNCW won the CAA Championship after earning 885.5 points.
