HAMPTON, Va. - Max Hull and Matt Martin each collected hat tricks as five Dragons picked up first career goals in the victory over Hampton, 16-5. Drexel's record improves to 4-5 as Hampton slides to 0-8.
Andre Myers helped the Pirates jump on the board first at the 12:47 mark, but the Dragons would quickly take over the game from there. DU scored five goals in just over three minutes. The first came from Nate Bradley, scoring his first career goal to tie the game up at one. Matt Martin and Gavin Kelly each followed with their first goals of the year to take the lead to 3-1.
Max Semple scored two tallies in a span of 15 seconds before Hampton finally broke up the streak to make it 5-2. The Dragons responded with three straight goals. Graduate student, Will Farrell collected his first goal as a Dragon, followed by Martin and Luke Tomak which gave DU an 8-2 lead to end the quarter.
Both teams exchanged goals in the second half of the second quarter until the Dragons scored three straight thanks to Max Hull, the first three of his career. The redshirt-freshman began his hat trick with a spectacular shot between the legs of the goalie to hit the back of the cage. The next came off the caused turnover from Carter Begley, who quickly sprinted down field to dish it to Hull for the tally. The Dragons then took full advantage of the man-up situation and Hull quickly scored again to take Drexel into the half up 12-3.
Cole Doller kicked the third quarter off for Drexel, scoring just in front of the crease to score his first goal of the season. Begley joined the party to record his first goal of the season as well, firing from way back to extend the lead to 14-3.
Drexel held Hampton scoreless for just under 30 minutes before Darius Stanley was able to break through for the Pirates. Teddy Luthy was the final Dragon to score his first career goal, powering through the back of the net off the assist from Caden Zadell. Martin added his third and final goal near the end of the fourth quarter. Hampton was able to add one more in the final minutes as Drexel took the win over the Pirates 16-5.
