PHILADELPHIA – Allison Hoppe threw the program's 22nd no-hitter during game two of a doubleheader against the Lafayette Leopards on Tuesday afternoon at the DU Softball Field. Drexel defeated Lafayette, 4-2 in game one and then defeated the visitors once more, 2-1.
GAME ONE
Natalie Alldred (2-1) pitched five innings and held the Leopards to two hits on four hits. Hoppe entered the game in relief and went two innings to earn the save, only allowing two hits.
Ashley Errico hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give Drexel an immediate lead. The home run scored Jackie Masone and Izzy Alamillo.
The Leopards scored their first run in the top of the fourth after a double split the gap between Alamillo and Grace Abbonizio in left-center. Lafayette's run did not go unanswered for long, Abbonizio dumped a ball in front of the right fielder in the bottom of the fourth and ball got past the corner outfielder. Lindsey Hunt took advantage of the miscue and scored on the play.
In the top of the fifth, a triple hit by Lafayette scored the team's second run of the game.
GAME TWO
Hoppe (4-5) held Lafayette to no hits through seven innings but conceded one run in the effort. The no-hitter is the first in the program since Brooklyn Daly threw a no-hitter against Hofstra on April 10, 2021.
In the first inning, the Leopards drew a walk in the first at bat and then stole second base. A batter later, a miscue at third base allowed the corners to be filled. Lafayette scored its lone run on a double play to short.
Drexel struck in the third inning. Madison Gayle hit a home run to deep center field to tie the game at one. After the lineup turned over, Abbonizio singled to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alamillo. With Abbonizio in scoring position, Masone hit a sharp line drive to left field past the diving player. The ball rolled to the wall, and Masone pulled into third base with an RBI triple.
