STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Drexel softball team was defeated by the Stony Brook Seawolves, 4-0, Friday afternoon on Long Island.
Lindsay Nelson (7-11) went all six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. Nelson also struck out four batters.
Grace Abbonizio checked into the game twice, hitting a pair of singles on four tries. Drexel's biggest chance to strike came in the bottom of the sixth, after Lily Meuninck roped a double to left field. Drexel's offense was stopped, however.
Stony Brook scored all of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. After the Seawolves were able to get two runners on base, a three-run home run gave the team the lead. Stony Brook added an insurance run on a double down the left field line.
Drexel and Stony Brook are set to play game two of the three-game series on Saturday, April 20. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. from Long Island.
