Last Time Out
The Drexel women's basketball team opened Big 5 play with a 72-55 victory over University City foe Penn Wednesday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Molly Lavin recorded her first double-double as a Dragon, pouring in ten points and grabbing ten rebounds. The win is the first over the Quakers since the 2014-15 season.
Amaris Baker led the charge with 18 points, including 12 in the first quarter. The graduate student shot 7-for-15 from the field and connected on three triples.
Laine McGurk added 12 points, while Grace O'Neill chipped in eight.
Lavin recorded her first double-double as a Dragon, marking the third straight game in which a Drexel player has notched a double-double. It also marked the second consecutive contest in which the Dragons have scored 70 or more points.
All-Time Series
The Dragons and Greyhounds meet again after a 16-year hiatus. Drexel and Loyola (Md.) last competed on December, 28, 2009 at Villanova. The Dragons defeated Loyola, 69-58. Prior to that, the two teams have met only seven other times, and only played three games in the 21st century.
Last Time Against Loyola
Gabriela Marginean recorded a 25-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Kamile Nacickaite scored 16 of her 18 points in the first half to help Drexel (6-4) hold off the Loyola Greyhounds (4-6) in a 69-58 victory at the Villanova Wildcat Classic. Senior guard Alison Lupariello drained a key three-pointer to stave off a Loyola rally that trimmed Drexel's 14-point second-half lead to just four points with five minutes to play. Drexel will face the winner of tonight's game between the host Wildcats and San Francisco at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Pavilion.
In one of their best shooting performances of the season, Drexel out shot Loyola 50 percent to 36.5, and outrebounded the Greyhounds 39-26. While the 20 turnovers were a season high for the Dragons, the team's steady shooting and steely play in the final minutes led them to their second straight win and a chance to play for the Wildcat Classic Championship tomorrow night at the Pavilion.
Looking Ahead
Drexel heads on the road on Wednesday November 19 to play Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. The Dragons and Lehigh are set to tip at 6 p.m. and action can be seen on ESPN+.
