PHILADELPHIA — The Drexel wrestling team is set to host No. 1 Penn State in the Daskalakis Athletic Center in front of a sold out crowd Friday night. The dual against the Nittany Lions is presented by IBEW Local 98 / NECA. Action is set to take place at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m.

About Drexel
At the PRTC Keystone Classic, Drexel placed sixth out of 11 teams with 89 points. Jasiah Queen and Ibrahim Ameer both earned runner-up finishes, as six Dragons took home spots on the podium. Queen came just short of taking the crown at 174lbs, falling to Rutger's Lenny Pinto in tiebreakers. Newcomer Nate Schon finished in third with an 3-1 record as Desmond Pleasant upset No. 27 Caleb Weiand of Michigan State by a 6-2 decision in the fifth place match. Luke Nichter and Cody Walsh also secured 7th place in their respective weight classes.
The Dragons last competed in team action on November 16, where DU took down Duke and Morgan State in Baltimore, Md. Drexel won 17 of their 20 matches, with six Dragons winning both of their matches. Queen took down Duke's nationally ranked Aidan Wallace by a 4-3 decicion. The Elizabeth, N.J., native has three wins over nationally ranked opponents this season. Pleasant leads the team in wins with ten.
Five Dragons currently sit in the Intermat and FloWrestling national rankings. Ameer finds himself ranked for the first time in his career as a Dragon.
Tournament Experience
There are three returning wrestlers on this year's team who have experience in the NCAA Tournament. Jasiah Queen and Jordan Soriano both punched their ticket to last year's championship for the first time. Nichter is also searching to return to March Matness once again, last qualifying during his freshman season in 2020-21.
Nichter (157lbs) and Waterman (133lbs) both came just shy of being conference champions at the 2024-25 EIWA Championships. Both finished runner-up at the tournament as all ten Dragons earned spots on the podium.

PSU took home the trophy for the 12th time in program history at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in South Philadelphia last season. Penn State had ten wrestlers earn All-American status, including all ten finishing sixth or better. Seven of those All-Americans return for this season. Shayne Van Ness (149lbs), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165lbs), Levi Haines (174lbs), and Josh Barr (197lbs) are all ranked No. 1 in the country according to Intermat.
Penn State opened the season with a 45-0 victory over Oklahoma. Eight of ten Nittany Lions earned bonus points, including five tech. falls wins and a pin.
The Series
This marks the first time PSU will make an appearance at the DAC. Both teams have faced off just twice in their extensive history, with the Dragons traveling to State College last season. The first match-up took place during the 2002-03 season.
On the Mic
Drexel will feature a new voice on the mic for the 2025–26 wrestling season, as Nick Kosko takes over play-by-play duties on FloWrestling. A former Broadcaster of the Year honoree by the National Wrestling Media Association, Kosko brings extensive experience to the Dragons' coverage, having previously called matches for Rutgers and several other programs.
