Dragons Salvage Series Finale Against Monmouth, 11-9

Madison Taylor started the game and also reentered the game in relief. The junior held the Hawks to four hits and was charged with four runs. The starter also fanned two batters. Sidney Toukonen entered the game in relief and was unable to finish the third inning, allowing four runs on two hits. Marta took over for the Dragons in the bottom of the fourth and pitched four innings, holding the Hawks to two hits and one earned run.
The Dragons finished with 12 hits, Devyn Demchak went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in the third inning. Five Drexel players finished with two hits in the series finale. Ariana Castillo, Kylah Reading, Annabelle Smink, Kelsie Peters and Zoe Krizan all picked up two knocks. Reading finished with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.
The Dragons began the game with a run in the first inning. Reading put the ball on a rope to right center and scored Castillo with an RBI double. In the third, Demchak hit a three-run shot to right center and put Drexel ahead, 4-0.
The Hawks answered with an eight-run third to take a four-run lead on the Dragons. However, Drexel's offense stayed resilient. The Dragons answered with a double to right center in the top of the fourth off the bat of Marta. The pitcher scored Peters on the play to make the deficit three.
In the fifth, Drexel scored three runs to tie the game at eight. Peters began the rally with a single up the middle and scored Demchak. The Dragons then scored two more runs on a single to left field. A fielding miscue allowed the tying run to score on the play.
Drexel retook the lead in the sixth inning after scoring a pair of runs. Demchak hit a sacrifice fly to center field and scored Castillo on the play. Later in the inning, Smink hit a double to right center and advanced to third on an errant throw. Bergmann went from first to home on the play.
Drexel scored an insurance run in the seventh inning after Reading hit her second double of the game and scoring Krizan. The Hawks scored one run in the bottom of the seventh with a double. The Hawks managed to load the bases with two outs but Marta escaped the inning only surrendering one run.
The Dragons return to the diamond on Friday, March 21. The Dragons return to Philadelphia to host the Hampton Pirates in a three-game series. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
