PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team was bested in game three its series against Hampton, 6-5. The Pirates scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to force the second straight extra inning game in the three-game series.

Sidney Toukonen began the game in the circle for the Dragons and pitched 2.2 innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Violet Marta entered in relief and pitched 6.1 innings, holding Hampton to just four hits but conceding three runs. The freshman also struck three batters out.

Lily Meuninck went 3-for-4 in the rubber match against Hampton. The senior had a pair of singles and also hit an RBI double.

Kalea Calugay went 2-for-4 with a home run to cap off Drexel's five-run sixth inning. The junior hit a three-run home run to right center to give Drexel the lead.

Hampton scored three runs in the third inning with a pair of singles and a double. After taking the three-run lead, both teams were held in check until the bottom of the sixth.

Drexel began the five-run inning on a Meuninck double to right center. Kylah Reading went from first to home to score Drexel's first run. Ariana Castillo pinch ran for Meuninck and was able to score on an infield error during Mia Garza's at bat. After Zoe Krizan managed to poke a single into the outfield, Calugay hit her second home run of the season. The round tripper gave Drexel a two run lead heading into the top of the seventh inning.

The pirates hit a two-run home run to left center in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings tied at five. In the top of the ninth, Hampton scored its sixth run on single.

Drexel hosts Penn at the Drexel Softball Field on Wednesday March 26. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
