Dragons Upended by Penn

Madison Taylor started the game and pitched three innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Sidney Toukonen was unable to record an out in relief and allowed seven runs. Violet Marta was the third Dragon pitcher to enter the game and allowed five runs in two innings.
Zoe Krizan continued to swing a hot bat. The freshman went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Mia Garza also finished the game with two hits. The senior was also responsible for an RBI and run scored. Both players hit a double.
After Penn opened the game with a 3-run home run in the first inning, Drexel answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on first and third, Kalea Calugay stole second base and a throwing miscue allowed Drexel to score its first run. Later in the inning, Izzy Alamillo reached on a throwing miscue and allowed Calugay to score Drexel's second run. To cap Drexel's inning, Lana Mooney grounded out to shortstop and scored Macie Bergmann from third.
Penn hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to take a one run lead, but the Dragons answered right back with runs of their own. Garza laced a double to right center and scored Kylah Reading on the play. With Meuninck on third, Devyn Demchak hit a sacrifice fly to right field to give Drexel the 5-4 lead.
Penn scored 11 runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-run lead on the Dragons heading into the fourth inning. Drexel was able to answer back in the fourth inning, scoring two runs. Krizan hit a double to right center and scored Lana Mooney. Later in the inning, Krizan scored on a wild pitch.
Penn scored once more in the fifth inning with a single up the middle.
Drexel returns to action on Friday, March 28. The Dragons travel to Charleston, S.C. to play a three-game series against the Cougars. First pitch on Friday is set for 5 p.m.
