3/9/2025 3:05:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's scored five straight goals in the second quarter to take the lead and went on to defeat Drexel at Vidas Field on Sunday afternoon, 17-11. Witt Crawford scored three times to lead Drexel (3-4), while Conor Hooley added two goals and an assist.
The Dragons scored two quick goals in the opening quarter after the Hawks (4-2) took a 1-0 lead. Witt Crawford had the first of his three goals five minutes into the game and Will Farrell followed with an unassisted score at the 8:44 mark. Saint Joseph's evened it up 25 seconds later at 2-2. The teams exchanged scores in the last two minutes of the frame. The Hawks led briefly but Nate Bradley evened the game after converting a feed from Teddy Luthy. In the second quarter, Crawford took a pass from Conor Hooley and gave Drexel a 4-3 lead. That would be the last lead of the night as the Hawks rattled off five straight scores to take an 8-4 lead at the half.
The Hawks fun continued with three more goals to start the second half. Drexel finally snapped the run with back-to-back scores midway through the quarter. Crawford scored his third of the night and that was followed by a Hooley score. That was as close as the Dragons would come as Saint Joseph's scored the next three to make it a 14-6 game.
The Dragons scored four times in the final five minutes, but it was too little too late. Jayden Santangello scored two of those goals, while Owen Knight and Tristan Plotts also got on the board.
The Hawks had three players score three goals. Richie LaCalandra had a huge day, scoring three times and handing out five assists. Mark Watters and Ben Dutton also had hat tricks. Tommy Gross had 13 stops in the cage.
Saint Joseph's outshot Drexel, 48-36. The Dragons had the edge on face-offs (17-14) as Aidan Shortley won 14 of his 24 attempts.
The Dragons begin conference play next Saturday when they host Monmouth at Vidas Field.
