Seven Dragons Named to All-CAA Teams
RICHMOND, VA. - Jenika Cuocco of Drexel women's lacrosse was named the Coastal Athletic Association Goalkeeper of the Year, as seven Dragons were honored by the conference in its annual awards Wednesday afternoon, which was voted on by the league's coaches.
Cuocco and Allison Drake were named to the First-Team, as Anna Maria Gragnani, Kate Quinn, and Camryn Ryan received Second-Team honors. Emma Nikolic and Teagan Quinn received All-Rookie Team recognition.
This is Cuocco's third consecutive Goalkeeper of the Year award, the first in program history to win a major conference award on three occasions. The Sound Beach, N.Y. native broke into the CAA record books as well, being the first player to win three straight major conference awards. She also became the first player to collect four major awards in her career, earning CAA Rookie of the Year in her redshirt freshman campaign. She eclipses Towson's Hillary Fratzke and James Madison's Casey Ancarrow, who each won Rookie of the Year and two other major awards.
The redshirt junior showed once again why she is one of the best in the cage, posting a 13-3 record with a 7-1 mark in conference play. Cuocco sits in the top-20 national rankings with a .482 save percentage (13th) and a 9.66 goals against average (18th). She has collected eight or more saves in 11 games this season, including 17 stops against cross-town rival Temple.
Drake was an All-CAA selection for the second time in her career after taking Second-Team honors last season. The Easton, Pa. product was one of the most consistent strikers in the country. She netted 50 goals and eight assists with a .617 save percentage, the 8th best rate in the NCAA. The graduate student is also top-15 all-time in both points (138) and goals (120) scored in program history.
Gragnani had the best statistical season of her career. Appearing in just 12 games due to injury, the redshirt senior scored 38 goals after scoring just 19 times in her previous four seasons. Gragnani has also been a force at the midfield line, setting a program record of 15 draw controls against William & Mary this season. The Montebello, N.Y., native is fifth in program history with 141 for her career.
Kate Quinn had a standout junior campaign for the Dragons, tallying a career-best 23 times. The West Caldwell, N.J. native had eight multi-goal games, including five tallies in the Dragons 12-9 win over Towson. Quinn was a threat on both sides of the field, picking up 27 ground balls, causing 16 turnovers, and recorded 55 draw controls. This is the first All-CAA award of her career.
Ryan earned her first All-CAA Second Team award of her career, helping the Dragons to the nations 19th best scoring defense. The team captain helped the Dragons hold opponents to just 9.69 goals per game, the third straight season with a top-20 defense. Ryan is tied for the most caused turnovers on the team with 25, while adding a career-high 33 ground balls. The three-year starter also snatched 44 draw controls, including collecting three or more in nine games this year.
Emma Nikolic and Teagan Quinn both collected All-CAA Rookie Team honors, leading the way for the Dragons freshman class. Quinn hit the back of the net seven times this season, scoring a pair in the 11-10 win over Hofstra. Nikolic started in all 16 games this season, nabbing eight ground balls and causing nine turnovers.
