Teagan Quinn’s Game-Winner Lifts Dragons Past Elon on Senior Day, 10-9

PHILADELPHIA — Teagan Quinn scored the Dragons final two goals of the game, including the game-winner with 46 seconds remaining, to lift Drexel to a 10-9 Senior Day victory over Elon Saturday afternoon. DU finished the fourth quarter on a 4-1 run to collect their first conference win of the season. Kate Quinn led the Dragons on the day in scoring, earning her third hat-trick on the year.
After the game, Drexel honored six seniors for their contributions to the program; Hailey Kluepfil, Katie Maloney, Alexys McClain, Caroline Senich, Katherine Senich and Kate Quinn.
Lucy Daily had another solid day in front of the cage. The freshman stopped nine shots along with two ground balls.
The Dragons struck first as Kate Quinn converted a free-position attempt, entering the game as the nation's leader in 8-meter shooting percentage. The Phoenix with a pair of goals in a span of just over a minute to gain the lead. Off the Elon go-ahead score, Kate Quinn won the ensuing draw and took it to the house herself to even the score. Drexel added another to close the quarter, as Katie Maloney scooped up a loose ball and raced downfield before feeding Annie Madden, who buried the shot for the score.
Kate Quinn added another at the 7:09 mark of the second quarter on the woman-up, pushing the Dragons' lead to two. Elon responded with a 2-0 run to knot the game at 4-4 at the half.
Heubeck opened the third quarter by giving the Dragons the lead for the third time, converting a free-position attempt to put Drexel ahead 5-4. Elon responded just 54 seconds later, as Addie Gilner found space in front of the cage to score. The Phoenix went back-to-back when Ana Lee Vandiver fired into the top-right corner to reclaim the lead. Katherine Senich scored on the free-position as Elon scored on the women-up to close the quarter.
Elon capped off another 2-0 run to open the fourth, before Annie Madden scored her first goal of the game to ignite a 4-1 stretch that swung momentum back in favor of Drexel. Buckley connected with Hailey Kluepfel alone in front of the net for her fifth of the season.
With 4:29 left, Anna Hacket buried the free-potion goal to take the 9-8 lead. Teagan Quinn netted the equalizer with 3:03 remaining in the fourth quarter, as Mary Claire Heubeck found her at the 8-meter mark before she drove down the right side around a defender for the finish. An Elon card proved costly, as the Dragons capitalized on the woman-up opportunity. Bea Buckley lofted a pass to Quinn, who buried the game-winner in the top left corner to seal the victory.
The Dragons return to Vidas Field on Wednesday to face Georgetown at 3 p.m. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
