Dragons Defeated in Doubleheader Against Hofstra

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team was defeated in a doubleheader against the Hofstra Pride on Friday afternoon. In the first game of the doubleheader, Hofstra edged Drexel, 3-1. In the latter game of the two, the Pride shut the Dragons out, 4-0.
GAME ONE
Violet Marta started the game on the rubber for Drexel and went seven innings and held Hofstra to six hits. The freshman struck out four batters.
The Dragons finished the game with three hits. Zoe Krizan, Kylah Reading and Devyn Demchak all checked into the game with a base knock. Reading picked up an RBI as well.
Hofstra scored three runs in the first two innings of the game. In the first inning, the Pride hit a two-run home run to right field. The Pride added their third run in the second after obstruction was called at home plate.
The Dragons were held in check until the sixth inning. With Krizan on second, Reading hit a RBI single down the left line. While Krizan scored Drexel's lone run, Reading moved into scoring position. Drexel was unable to crack the scoreboard again, falling short two runs.
GAME TWO
Madison Taylor started the second game in the circle for the Dragons and went all seven innings. The junior allowed 10 hits and allowed three earned runs.
The Dragons had multi-hit performances by Demchak and Reading. The pair hit two singles a piece.
Hofstra hit a pair of singles in the first inning to score two runs and take an early two-run advantage against Drexel. In the third inning, the Pride added another pair of runs. A single to right field and a sacrifice fly allowed the visitors to take a four-run advantage.
Due to forecasted inclement weather on Sunday, the series finale against the Pride, originally scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m., has been moved to Saturday at 3 p.m.
