Dragons Defeat Stony Brook, 7-6

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team defeated the Stony Brook Seawolves, 7-6, on Friday afternoon to split the three-game series at one game apiece. It is the first time since Stony Brook joined the conference that the Dragons have defeated the Seawolves.
Sidney Toukonen started the game for Drexel in the circle and pitched 4.1 innings, striking out one batter and allowing eight hits. Madison Taylor pitched 2.2 innings, holding Stony Brook to just one hit. Madison Taylor earned her first save of the season after pitching the remainder of the game.
Drexel notched 12 hits on the day and tallied seven RBIs on seven runs. Izzy Alamillo, Kylah Reading, Lily Meuninck and Ariana Castillo all picked up two hits on the day. Mia Garza went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Stony Brook began the scoring by tacking on two runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Drexel hit a pair of RBI singles to tie the game at two. Meuninck hit an infield single to third base and Zoe Krizan hit an RBI single to left field.
In the second inning, DU scored three runs. Garza had a bases loaded opportunity and scored two runs on the play with a single up the middle. A batter later, Devyn Demchak hit a sacrifice fly to center field and scored Reading from third.
SBU scored a run in the third to trim the Drexel lead to two, but the Dragons tacked on two insurance runs in the third inning to take a four-run lead into the latter half of the game. Alamillo hit an infield single that scored Kelsie Peters and Reading hit a single to right field to score Lana Mooney.
In the top of the fifth, Stony Brook hit a three-run home run to come within one of the Dragons, but the offense fell short, not being able to score another run to tie the game, The Seawolves were held to just one hit following the three-run home run.
Drexel rounds out its regular season on Saturday, hosting Stony Brook to a rubber match at noon. Prior to the game, Drexel will honor its seniors, Alamillo, Garza, Meuninck, Mooney, Jackie Masone and Madison Gayle.
